So you've just unboxed your brand new printed shirt or hoodie or other printed item and you might get a whiff of vinegar. What's that all about? Don't worry, it's not unusual - it's a result of the printing process and it's not permanent.

Fixation agent (sometimes known as pre-treatment) is used for all direct-to-garment prints across the industry. It helps the ink bond with the fabric - a bit like how you will bond with your Teeporium shirt - and without it, the ink would flake off the garment.

The solution is simply to wash the garment! Neither the residue nor the smell is permanent and both should go away after one wash. If the discoloration is noticeable, the printing quality control team will include a card explaining that it's from the fixation agent and what to do.

It's not brain surgery, but neither is making pavlova, and what's the bet that most of us still can't do it? So it's a fair question to ask.

WASHING DIRECTIONS:

• Turn your clothes inside out
• Machine wash in cold water on a gentle cycle
• Tumble dry on low, or hang-dry for longest life. Do not dry clean.
  

IRONING DIRECTIONS:

• Cool iron inside-out
• Do not iron the prints
